SANTA ROSA, CA — A 13-year-old boy was struck by a car Thursday in Santa Rosa and was hospitalized in critical condition, police said.

Dispatchers received several calls at 8:39 a.m. Thursday about the collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle. Several officers responded to the scene in the 4600 block of Hoen Avenue, near Arroyo Sierra Circle, a Santa Rosa police sergeant said.

SRPD's Traffic Bureau was handling the investigation, which was ongoing and in the preliminary stages, SRPD Sgt. Christopher Mahurin said Thursday afternoon in a news release.

The driver, a Santa Rosa man in his early 30s, immediately stopped his vehicle and was cooperative with the investigation, Mahurin said. There were no initial signs of the driver being under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication, according to the sergeant.

The boy was hospitalized with severe injuries and was airlifted in critical condition to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland. Police said the child's family was notified but his name was not released because the case was still actively being investigated.

Thursday afternoon, accident investigators were interviewing witnesses while Field and Evidence technicians were processing the accident scene.

Police said more information would be released once the preliminary investigation was completed.
