1 Dead, 3 Injured in Rancho Cordova Traffic Accident

The county coroner has not released the name of the woman who died during a traffic accident Sunday afternoon pending notification of next of kin.

A womanΒ lost her life in a traffic accident Sunday afternoon in Rancho Cordova; three people were also injured during the collision.Β 

The accident happened at the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Douglas Road at 3:45 p.m., Sunday.

Police said the woman was a passenger in a sedan that was eastbound onΒ Douglas Road and drove through the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard.

"A sport-utility vehicle with two occupants was northbound on Sunrise Boulevard, and struck the passenger side of the aforementioned sedan," a Rancho Cordova Police Department statement read.Β "The impact left the SUV overturned as it came to rest after the collision. Initial indications were that the sport-utility vehicle entered the intersection against a red traffic signal."

Β The female passenger of the sedan sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of that car and the two occupants of the sport-utility vehicle were transported to area hospitals, and were expected to survive their injuries, police said.Β
