Boys Basketball: Rosemont Looks To Compete in Metro Conference

Wolverines face tough league matchups.

The boys basketball team knows they face a challenge almost every night playing in the Metropolitan Conference.

Sacramento, ranked No. 4 in the area by The Sacramento Bee, joins No. 10 Burbank, No. 11 Kennedy and No. 19 Valley at the top of the league. The Wolverines have lost big already to Sacramento, Kennedy and Valley, and lost to Burbank Wednesday by 43 points.

But Rosemont has also beaten its rival McClatchy 51-49 on Jan. 11 and also exacted revenge on Monterey Trail of Elk Grove, who beat the Wolverines in a blowout last season, with a win this year. Rosemont also beat at the Carmichael-area school 41-40 on a buzzer-beating shot by senior shooting guard Rich Mayberry.

Mayberry said the team is not where it wants to be.

"It's a tough league," he said. "We have to play harder."

Senior forward Simon Nguyen said the team needs to start stronger and finish out games in order to represent the Rosemont community well.

"We're trying to make a difference here," Nguyen said.
