Craigslist Buyer Shows up with Machete

A Rosemont man was convinced his cell phone wasn't as valuable as he thought when a potential buyer wielding a machete told him he'd take it off his hands for free...along with all of his cash as well.

A Rosemont man expecting monetary compensation for his $40 cell phone was instead offered the receiving end of a machete Friday, Nov. 25.

The buyer had solicited the man after seeing his ad for the cell phone on Craigslist. Upon meeting the buyer around 7 p.m. outside the Bradshaw Road RPM Motorsports, two things became immediately certain: First, when a man wielding a machete demands you give him your cell phone, you oblige that man. Second, the seller wouldn't be making any money off of this transaction. In fact, he'd be losing money as well.

According to a report issued by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred after the victim received a phone call from an unknown male arranging to meet at the specific location.

The victim and his friend arrived at the pre-arranged location and were contacted by two unknown suspects, according to the report. The suspect armed with a machete demanded the victim's property and cash and fled in a vehicle to an unknown location.

Both suspects are described at approximately 19 to 20 years of age, weighing approximately 160 pounds. The suspect wielding the machete is described as a Hispanic male and the second suspect a white male. The suspects' eyes and hair color are unknown as both heads were hidden by hats and the poor lighting made it difficult to identify eye color.
