Sacramento County Unemployment Rates Drop
Rosemont's jobless rate was 6.7 percent in May.

Sacramento County and statewide unemploymentΒ rates continue to drop.Β
Regionally, the decline is partially thanks to more seasonal farm jobs and an increaseΒ in leisure and hospitality sector jobs,Β according to figures released byΒ the state Employment Development Department on Friday.Β
That translated to theΒ Sacramento CountyΒ jobless rate declining to 8 percent in May. The county's unemployment rate was 8.3 percent in April.
Rosemont, with a jobless rate of 6.7 percent, is far below the county average. Β FolsomΒ boasts the city with theΒ lowest unemployment rate in the county, at 3.6 percent.Β
The total number of jobs in Sacramento, Placer, Yolo and El DoradoΒ countiesΒ climbed 4,900 jobs to reachΒ 842,500Β jobs between April and May:Β
- Farm led the month-over expansion with a 1,500-job gain, a normal seasonal increase.
- Professional and business services added 1,400 jobs. The gain in administrative andΒ support and waste services (up 1,500 jobs) more than offset the slight loss inΒ professional, scientific, and technical services (down 100 jobs).Β
- Leisure and hospitality recorded the largest April-to-May increase since 1991 with anΒ addition of 700 jobs.Β
- Other services was the only sector to report a decrease for the month (down 400 jobs).
Comparing May 2013Β to May 2012, there were 6,700 more jobs in the four-county areaΒ this year than last.
The Sacramento County unemployment rate is lower than the state's, which declined to 8.6 percent in May. The national unemployment rate saw a slight uptick from April to May, rising to 7.6 percent.
