Bee Endorses Garcia, Gore, Roccucci for Roseville City Council

The two incumbents and a newcomer get the nod from one of Sacramento prominent news sources. Did the publication make the right decision? Let us know in the comments section.

The Sacramento Bee has given its endorsement to Carol Garcia, Bonnie Gore and Mayor Pauline Roccucci for Roseville City Council.

Voters have the opportunity to vote to fill three seats on Roseville City Council Nov. 6. Garcia and Roccucci are both running for re-election, along with five other candidates. Councilmember John Allard is not eligible for re-election.

According to The Bee, its decision to endorse Garcia, Gore and Roccucci came down to two important qualities: Proven track records and valuable civic service knowledge.

In its editorial, The Bee states that Gore, who sits on the City's Transportation Committee and previously served on other committees, "would hit the ground running." She currently works for Kaiser Permanente.

The Bee's support for Garcia stems from her support on City decisions regarding economic development, according to its editorial.

Roccucci's endorsement comes with some concern. According to The Bee, she's been the only "no" vote on some of the City's "key decisions" like the hiring of City Manager Ray Kerridge.

"It can be good for an elected body to have at least one member challenge the majority. Yet, when Roccucci goes her own way, she needs to more clearly tell her colleagues and the public why," The Bee states.

Readers, what do you think of The Bee's endorsements? Is this a fair evaluation of the candidates? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
