City Discontinues Bus Route to Rancho Cordova

Roseville City Council approved to discontinue the Commuter Route 51 to Rancho Cordova because of low demand.

In a release from the City of Roseville, staff wrote:

At the August 1 meeting, City Council voted to discontinue Commuter Route 51 due to low demand. The route travels once in the morning and once in the afternoon between Roseville and the Butterfield Light Rail Station, adjacent to the Franchise Tax Board offices. Route 51 operates until Friday, August 3, 2012. Passengers on Route 51 may board for free August 1-3.

In January 2010, Route 51 began service. Since 2010, the route has been promoted, policies changed, and adjustments made to the route to increase ridership. However, ridership for the route has consistently underperformed due to low demand.  

Demand is high for commuter service between Roseville and downtown Sacramento with several routes at capacity. Roseville Transit currently provides 8 morning and 8 afternoon Commuter routes. To meet the demand for additional capacity, interim extra morning and afternoon service was effective July 30. View the extra service schedule.

At the June 19 meeting, Transportation Commission made the recommendation that City Council approve these service changes.
