Dead Baby Found in Bushes at Roseville Park, City Says

The baby was found hidden in the bushes at Saugstad Park.

A dead newborn baby was found in the bushes at Saugstad Park in Roseville Monday morning, city officials say.

The baby, whose gender and identity are not yet known, was found by a city work crew at 7:50 a.m. Monday, according to a city press release.

"It is undetermined at this time how the baby died, or why the baby was deposited in the bushes at the park," the press release stated. "The baby had been wrapped in bags and placed into a diaper box and then concealed in the bushes off of the bike trail that runs adjacent to the creek."

The baby appeared to be full-term, the city said.

The city asks anyone with information or who knows someone who may have been pregnant and is no longer pregnant, but doesn't have a child, to call police at 916-774-5070.

The city reminds residents that the 2001 Safe Surrender Baby Law allows any parent or legal guardian to confidentially surrender a 3-day-old or younger infant to any designated Safe Surrender facility–including any Roseville Fire station.

Saugstad Park is located at 100 Buljan Dr.
