DUI Checkpoint Set for Thursday in Roseville

The checkpoint is part of an increase of state-wide Labor Day DUI enforcement.

Roseville Police will conduct a DUI/driver's license checkpoint in an undisclosed location in Roseville Thursday, Aug. 29 to kick off a state-wide Labor Day weekend DUI crackdown. 

The checkpoint will begin at 9 p.m. "at an undisclosed location in Roseville with a history of DUI-related traffic collisions and arrests," according to a press release. 

Since 2011, three people have been killed in DUI-related crashes in Roseville, according to the release; 134 people have been injured. 

"The end of summer and Labor Day weekend is traditionally a time to have fun," said Roseville Police Chief Daniel Hahn said the release. "Don't let it turn into a time of tragedy or a jail visit by driving impaired by alcohol or other drugs. We will be out looking for those making that unwise and dangerous choice."

More than 115 other local police departments across California will be joining this Labor Day weekend crackdown.

A few statistics, according to the release:

  • In 2011, 774 California drivers with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher were killed in alcohol impaired crashes.
  • A first-time DUI conviction can cost up to $10,000 in fines, legal fees and insurance increases.
  • During the Labor Day weekend in 2011, a total of 138 people across the country were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes involving drivers or motorcycle riders with a BAC of .08 or higher.  Of those fatalities, 83 percent occurred during early evening and overnight.
Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the Roseville Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
