For their dedication to serving their community, Roseville Vice Mayor Carol Chilton Garcia and Councilwoman Bonnie Gore were selected as the Fourth Senate District Women of the Year by State Senator Jim Nielsen.

“Carol and Bonnie are incredible examples of professional and civic leaders,” said Sen. Nielsen. “These women possess a great sense of public service, and have given and continue to give generously of their time and talent to the community.”

Each year, the California State Senate recognizes amazing women whose contributions reflect the excellence, potential and patriotism shared by all Americans. As the State Senator for the Fourth Senate District, Sen. Nielsen sought to recognize women who are committed to making their community a better place through their volunteerism and leadership.

This year, Nielsen selected two extraordinary women from the City of Roseville.

Vice Mayor Garcia expressed her appreciation, “It is an honor to be given this award.  Roseville has a great tradition of volunteerism back to its earliest days.  As a lifelong resident, I'm very proud to be part of that tradition."

A fifth generation Roseville resident, Ms. Garcia was elected to the City Council in 2007. During her years in public service, Ms. Garcia has been the recipient of many awards, including the Roseville Chamber of Commerce’s Athena Award, Volunteer of the Year Award, Outstanding Roseville Rotarian of the Year Award and the Placer County’s Commemorative Coin Award. She was also voted as a winner of the Nabisco 100 Calorie Packs “Celebrating 100 Extraordinary Women” in 2008.

The other recipient of the Woman of the Year Award is Councilmember Bonnie Gore, a respected member of the Roseville business community. Possessing more than 15 years of local public policy and business experience, Ms. Gore has managed numerous projects which required forging effective partnerships with community and business organizations, schools, and local government officials.

Passionate in helping others, Ms. Gore was the founding chair of the Lighthouse Counseling and Family Resource Center where families are provided with counseling, education and access to local resources.

"It is a privilege and pleasure to be able to give back to our wonderful community.  I want to thank Sen. Nielsen for nominating me for the award.  It is a great honor," said Councilwoman Gore as she accepted her award.
