ROSEVILLE, CA — A California woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of popular Stanley cups, according to police.

The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon in the Sacramento suburb of Roseville, where officers were called to a store in the 6000 block of Stanford Ranch Road, police said.

Staff saw the woman take a shopping cart full of Stanley water bottles without paying for them, according to police, who said the woman refused to stop for employees and loaded the stolen goods into her car. An officer saw her vehicle entering Highway 65 from Galleria Boulevard and made a traffic stop that resulted in the 23-year-old Sacramento woman being arrested on suspicion of grand theft, police said.

Stanley cups, particularly the 40-ounce Quencher, have experienced a recent surge in popularity. One tumbler exclusive to Target inspired shoppers to run through the store to get the coveted cup, as captured in recent video circulating on social media. The tumblers typically retail for around $50, but the Target exclusive cup is listed on resale websites for hundreds to thousands of dollars.
