Man Convicted Of Murder Of Sacramento Woman Sentenced To 82 Years To Life

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA — A man convicted of the murder of a Sacramento woman at a parking lot in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood in 2013 has been sentenced to 82 years to life in prison, prosecutors said Tuesday. Michael Green, 27, was sentenced for the murder of 23-year-old Melquiesha Warren and attempted murder of another woman in a shooting near Sixth and Jessie streets around 2:10 a.m. on Nov. 17, 2013.

A San Francisco Superior Court jury convicted Green on Aug. 18, rejecting his defense of mistaken identity.
Police had said Warren and her group of friends had been leaving a nearby nightclub when they got into a collision in the parking lot. Warren was trying to talk to an angry woman at the scene when Green shot her and the other victim, who suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized for 38 days, prosecutors said.

Warren, a California State University, Sacramento graduate with a degree in criminal justice, died at San Francisco General Hospital. Green was eventually arrested in May 2014 in Miami, where he had
been hiding under a fake name with a significantly altered appearance, prosecutors said.

"This was an extremely heinous crime that left one woman deceased and one severely injured," District Attorney George Gascon said in a statement. "A woman who had her hands up was effectively murdered over a fender bender. The only appropriate outcome for someone who takes life with this level of ease and callousness is to spend the rest of their days behind bars," Gascon said.
