2 Airplanes Collide Near Bay Area Airport Gate: Report

Two international flights were cancelled on Tuesday morning after the planes made contact. What to know.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Two United Airlines international flights were cancelled on Tuesday morning after the two aircraft touched wings, officials said.

No injuries were reported during the collision, which happened while the planes were still on the ground in an area near a gate, the East Bay Times reported.

The flights were headed for Sydney, Australia and Hong Kong, the Federal Aviation Administration told the newspaper.

The Sydney-bound plane, carrying 202 passengers and 16 crew members, collided with the right wingtip of the plane bound for Hong Kong, which was carrying 306 passengers and 16 crew members, the newspaper reported.

The FAA said it is investigating the incident.
