This Bay Area City Is Getting A Pro Women's Baseball Team
The Women's Pro Baseball League is expected to kick off its first season in the spring of 2026.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A Bay Area city has been selected to have one of the four teams for the inaugural season of a women's professional baseball league.
The Women's Pro Baseball League announced Tuesday the four cities that would host its first four teams: San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Boston.
"These four cities represent everything the WPBL stands for—heritage, community, and opportunity," league officials said Tuesday. "They’re iconic baseball towns that share our belief that women deserve a place in professional baseball."

San Francisco was selected because of its passionate baseball community, league officials said. Each city also carries deep baseball roots, and together, they are expected to form the backbone of the league, officials said.
"From Los Angeles to Boston, these four teams represent more than just cities—they represent possibility," league officials said. "These cities aren’t just markets; they’re cultural powerhouses ready to set the tone for a league built to last."

The teams have yet to be named. Up next, for the league, is the draft, where players such as Little League phenom Mo'ne Davis and Kelsie Whitmore, who made history by becoming the first woman to play in a Major League Baseball Partner League, make up a list of star-studded talent.
The Women's Pro Baseball League follows the legacy of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which served as the inspiration for the film "A League of Their Own." That league dissolved in 1954.
"With the league’s debut season on the horizon, the WPBL is positioning itself not only as a new professional league, but as a long-overdue expansion of baseball’s story—one where women finally have their place on the field," league officials said.
