San Francisco Playhouse

San Francisco Playhouse will journey Into the Woods this holiday season. Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s enchanting musical interweaves fairytale favorites in an exploration of what happens after “happily ever after.” A baker and his wife embark on a perilous quest to break a witch’s curse, finding Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and a magic bean-toting Jack along the way. When wishes are granted, the characters contend with the consequences of what they thought they wanted. San Francisco Playhouse co-founder/producing director Susi Damilano directs with music direction by Dave Dobrusky and choreography by Nicole Helfer.

The Commonwealth Club

The Social Impact Holiday Mixer is an evening of celebration and connection bringing together philanthropists, nonprofit leaders, and changemakers from across the Bay Area. Hosted at Commonwealth Club World Affairs, the program blends festive warmth with civic purpose.
Honorary chair and emcee Willie L. Brown, Jr., two-term mayor of San Francisco and former speaker of the California Assembly, opens the evening with reflections on leadership, philanthropy and community. He is joined by co-hosts Elisabeth Pang Fullerton, a philanthropist and impact investor studying Global Public Health Leadership at Harvard, and Eddy Zheng, founder of the New Breath Foundation and national advocate for cross-cultural healing and justice.
Following brief remarks, the evening transforms into an interactive roundtable discussion, with microphones, held by the co-organizers, circulating among guests to share social impact success stories and lessons learned. The program concludes with an open reception, inviting continued conversation and collaboration. Wine and hors d'oeuvres by Vino Godfather.
About the Speakers 
Honorary chair and emcee Willie Brown was a two-term mayor of San Francisco, legendary speaker of the California State Assembly and is widely regarded as one of the most influential African-American politicians of the late 20th century. Mayor Brown has been at the center of California politics, government and civic life for more than five decades.
Co-host Elizabeth Pang Fullerton is a philanthropist, early-stage investor, and startup veteran who leads a foundation advancing equity in health care, education and conservation. As general partner of her family office, she invests in mission-driven ventures addressing global challenges. Currently studying at the Global Public Health Leadership Program at Harvard, she focuses on building more just, inclusive, and human-centered systems.
Co-host Eddy Zheng, president and founder of the New Breath Foundation, bridges Black, Asian American, immigrant, refugee, and formerly incarcerated communities. Featured in The New Yorker, The Guardian, PBS, NPR, and the award-winning film Breathin’: The Eddy Zheng Story, he advances cross-cultural healing and justice through culture, history and identity.
Co-organizer Virginia Cheung, daughter of refugees and SFUSD parent, co-founded Give a Beat to use music for healing and opportunity for those impacted by the justice system. A 2024 SF Board of Education candidate and Committee of 100 NextGen Leader, she’s advanced equity through leadership roles in education, philanthropy and community service.
Co-organizer Ian McCuaig advises Track &amp; Share, helping nonprofits measure and share results. A veteran fundraiser with 30 years of leadership, he previously led development for the Marin JCC, Chinese Hospital and On Lok, and held international roles with the U.N. Association and Amnesty International. A Canadian native, he enjoys open-water swimming, jazz, red wine and civil discourse.

Through education and relentless curiosity, she rose to shape the future of AI, becoming a trailblazer in a field often lacking in diversity. Li's memoir blends her personal story with insights into the scientific process, showing how her life experiences shaped her belief that technology must serve humanity.&nbsp;

Woven throughout the book are powerful themes of immigration, identity, mentorship and the ethical responsibilities of innovation. Li makes a passionate case for building technology with care, inclusion and compassion, and she warns against the dangers of allowing AI to be driven solely by profit or power. Gather in front of the Golden Gate Valley Branch Library for this special, all-ages holiday event. Each participant simultaneously plays one of four pre-recorded tracks from a mobile device that amplifies music as you walk together on a predetermined 45-minute route to the nearby Marina Branch Library and back to the Golden Gate Valley Branch. No steep hills!&nbsp;&nbsp;

Unsilent Night is an original composition by Phil Kline, written specifically to be heard outdoors in December as a free event. It takes the form of a street promenade in which the audience becomes the performer. Each participant gets one of four tracks of music. Originally, the music was played using only cassette tapes in boomboxes, but as vintage boomboxes have become harder to find, most people use smartphones with portable speakers to blast the music via the free Unsilent Night app. Together, all four tracks comprise Unsilent Night. Participants start playing their devices simultaneously, then walk a carefully chosen route through their city's streets, creating a unique mobile sound sculpture which is different from every listener's perspective.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
Composed in 1992, this multi-track electronic ambient piece has become a beloved annual holiday tradition for people around the world. Unsilent Night has been presented by municipalities, parks, museums, universities, music ensembles, wineries, libraries and groups of friends in over 175 cities on five continents. Unsilent Night is a holiday tradition for many families. The first hosting by the San Francisco Public Library.&nbsp;
