This Car Is The Most Stolen In San Francisco: Report

SAN FRANCISCO — The car brand most often stolen in San Francisco is Honda, but the model stolen most frequently isn’t a Honda, but rather the Hyundai Elantra, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, citing police data.

Over 2023 and 2024, more than 1,200 Hondas were stolen, the Chronicle reported, adding Hyundai and Toyota rounded out the city’s three most stolen brands.

“Californians have expressed a longstanding preference for Toyota and Honda vehicles,” California New Car Dealers Association President Brian Maas told the newspaper. “It makes logical sense. The more you sell, the more opportunities for those vehicles to be stolen.”

Over 500 Elantras were stolen during that time, followed in frequency by 420 Honda Civics and 339 Honda Accords, according to the newspaper, which noted the Elantra’s parts are compatible with other Hyundais, possibly increasing its appeal to thieves.

Overall, car thefts in the city were down 22 percent last year from over 5,100 in 2023 to less than 4,000 in 2024, the Chronicle reported.
