DoorDash Drone Deliveries Could Come To San Francisco: Reports
The company has previously piloted drone deliveries in Texas, Virginia, North Carolina and Australia, reports said.
SAN FRANCISCO — DoorDash customers in San Francisco could see their orders delivered by a drone in the future after the company leased a Mission District warehouse last month to research and develop autonomous delivery technology, according to reports.
The roughly 34,000-square-foot facility is about two miles from DoorDash headquarters, according to the Los Angeles Times, which noted the company has previously piloted drone deliveries in Texas, Virginia, North Carolina and Australia.
DoorDash does not own delivery drones, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, but it has partnerships with drone companies, including Wing, which is a subsidiary of Google’s parent company, Alphabet. Wing drones are designed to carry up to 5 pounds at 65 mph for about 6 miles, according to the Chronicle.
