SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco police on Wednesday confirmed the identity of a man fatally shot in the city's Bayview District late last month and asked for the public's help in solving the case.

Charles "CeCe" Lawrence was found shot by officers who responded at 9:33 p.m. on April 29 to an activation of the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system in the area of Third Street and Quesada Avenue.

Lawrence was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries there.

According to a social media post by the San Francisco Housing Development Corporation — a nonprofit that seeks to develop affordable housing and foster economic empowerment and revitalization of Bayview-Hunters Point, the Fillmore District and other neighborhoods in San Francisco — Lawrence "was a contractor for SFHDC for many years, and a force for positivity and light."

San Francisco police have not announced an arrest or released any suspect information in the killing.
