NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — As a shortened work week begins, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday through Monday to prepare you for a great week.

But before we jump into Northern California's top stories, residents should expect sizzling temperatures including a heat advisory in the San Francisco Bay Area, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to max-out at 102 degrees.

In other news, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest and wounded in an attempted robbery near Union Square in San Francisco, authorities said. The 17-year-old assailant was taken into custody.

A pilot was killed in a fiery crash in the North Bay, authorities said. The pilot was the only person on board.

Two people were wounded over the weekend in a Bay Area freeway shooting, authorities said. Freeway lanes were shut down in the area for more than seven hours while officers investigated the shooting.

Plus, thousands of San Francisco, San Mateo and San Jose hotel workers went on strike on Labor Day weekend as part of a national action, the Unite Here Local 2 union said. The strike comes after months of failed contract negotiations, according to the union.
