Hotter Temperatures Forecast For The Bay Area This Week

SAN FRANCISCO — Daytime highs in the San Francisco Bay Area will rise five to 10 degrees above normal from Wednesday through Friday, the National Weather Service said Saturday.

"Coastal locations will see daytime highs in the 70s (roughly 5 degrees above normal), while some inland locations will reach the 90s (roughly 10 degrees above normal)," the weather service said in its long term forecast.

"Early October is typically one of the warmest periods of the year, so anything above normal will be noticeable," forecasters said.

Nights are growing longer as the autumnal equinox has passed, which will allow good nighttime cooling, the weather service said.

The pattern, which is expected to last through next weekend, will dry out grasses, shrubs, trees and fallen leaves and needless, increasing fire weather concerns, the weather service said.

October is typically the peak month for fire weather in the Bay Area, forecasters said.
