Iconic San Francisco Restaurant Closing After Over 30 Years

The team behind the restaurant called the decision "inevitable and bittersweet."

SAN FRANCISCO — One Market Restaurant, a Financial District institution, will close its doors next month after over 30 years in business, the restaurant announced.

“With a Founder’s 80th birthday looming large, a hoped-for sale and assignment to the current management team not in the cards, and the after-effects of COVID-19 still prevalent, the decision was inevitable and bittersweet,” the restaurant said in an announcement posted on its website.

One Market Restaurant, which was established by chef Bradley Ogden and restaurateur Michael Dellar in 1993, will close June 11.

Named the San Francisco Examiner’s best new restaurant the year it opened, One Market Restaurant went on to become a five-time Michelin star recipient and has continued to receive accolades, with sommelier and wine director Tonya Pitts named 2023's Sommelier of the Year by Wine Enthusiast.

Diners have a few more weeks to take in the restaurant’s views of the Ferry Building and Bay Bridge while enjoying chef Mark Dommen’s farm-to-table and seasonal fare, with standouts such as chickpea fries, spit-roasted prime rib and butterscotch pudding.

“Thank you seems almost inadequate to express our gratitude for 32 wonderful years, but it suits the purpose,” the announcement said. "We may be moving on, but we truly are leaving our hearts in San Francisco."
