Las Vegas Shooting: Wife Of San Francisco Police Officer Dies

Novato resident Stacee Etcheber leaves behind two children and her husband Officer Vinnie Etcheber.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The wife of a San Francisco police officer died after the couple attended a concert in Las Vegas on Sunday night, during which a gunman opened fire on the crowd, killing dozens of people and injuring hundreds more. According to a Facebook post this morning by Stacee Etcheber's brother-in-law, she has passed away. Etcheber, from Novato, leaves behind two children and her husband, Officer Vinnie Etcheber.

More than 22,000 people attended the Route 91 Harvest Festival, an outdoor country music concert that was held near the Las Vegas Strip. Shortly after 10 p.m., 64-year-old Stephen Craig Paddock opened
fire on the crowd from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel, Las Vegas police said.

According to a statement from San Francisco Police Officers Association president Martin Halloran, during the ordeal Officer Etcheber told his wife to flee the scene while he stayed behind to help victims. She did not have a cellphone with her and had given her identification card to her husband.

The shooting killed 59 people and left 516 other injured, police said. In a statement, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee said, "We are sending our deepest condolences and sympathies to the hundreds of families affected
by this senseless act of gun violence."

The Alameda County Fire Department said Monday on social media that three off-duty firefighters from their department also attended the concert. They were not injured and were able to provide aid to victims.
