SAN FRANCISCO — A 44-year-old man was found guilty of multiple crimes after he attacked guards at a Safeway supermarket in San Francisco in October, according to prosecutors.
Billy Hudson was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of assault, vandalism, and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
Based on testimony and evidence presented at trial, Hudson was at a Safeway supermarket in the 200 block of King Street on Oct. 15. Around 6:50 p.m., he was approached was asked to leave by the store's security guards due to suspicion of prior thefts.

In response, Hudson assaulted one of the guards. When he left the store, he pulled out a machete and attacked the other guard before fleeing, according to authorities.
Around 25 minutes later, Hudson arrived at a pizza restaurant in the 900 block of Market Street, assaulted the employees there and broke a plastic partition before being chased off. He was apprehended by police minutes later.

"I want to thank the jury for their thoughtful deliberation," Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Yang said in a statement. "San Franciscans and our visitors should feel secure in doing simple everyday activities like shopping for groceries or getting a bite to eat. This verdict assists us in our continued pursuit of that goal."
Hudson, currently in custody, is scheduled to be sentenced on March 11.
