Northern California Restaurants Ranked Among The World's Best

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A 3-star Michelin restaurant in San Francisco and a North Bay eatery attached to a boutique hotel have once again been named to the world’s best restaurants list.

More than 1,100 independent culinary experts, including acclaimed chefs, seasoned food writers and travelling gastronomes voted for the Worlds 50 Best Restaurants for 2025. That same group also recently revealed the top 51-100, including restaurants across six continents.

Returning to the list was an ever-evolving dining experience that can only be found in San Francisco.

Atelier Crenn, which was ranked 96, sits in an unassuming building in the Pacific Heights neighborhood in northern San Francisco. Chef and owner Dominique Crenn has crafted a unique restaurant that draws from traditional French techniques and her global imagination.

“Atelier Crenn is not a restaurant, it’s a place where we want to enable creativity but also to allow people to learn and feel comfortable,” Crenn told The Worlds 50 Best. “It’s still the same philosophy from 11 years ago and we’re still learning, becoming more inclusive.”

The restaurant has been described as having a calm interior and cozy dining room, which was inspired by Crenn’s artist father. The tasting menu is complimented by excellent wine pairings and top-notch service, according to the exclusive list.

Located around 67 miles north, is an eatery that has become a staple on the World’s Best Restaurant list.

SingleThread is a restaurant and boutique hotel located in the small town of Healdsburg, which is nestled in wine country. It is led by Kyle and Katina Connaughton, who split duties as Chef Kyle runs the kitchen and Katina oversees the 24-acre farm, where they source most of the restaurant’s produce.

The tasting menu is heavily Japanese-influenced and the restaurant operates under the Japanese concept of omotenashi, where they go above and beyond to anticipate guests’ needs.

SingleThread was ranked 80 this year but in 2024 was No. 46.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 list is determined by 1,120 international experts in the restaurant industry and gastronomy. The gender-balanced Academy, consisting of 28 global regions with 40 members each, votes independently. Deloitte, an independent consultancy, adjudicates the voting and the extended 51-100 ranking, guaranteeing the list’s integrity. Find more details on the voting process here.
