SF Firefighters Battle Pair Of Homeless Encampment Fires Over Weekend

No one was injured in either of the two blazes, fire officials said.

SAN FRANCISCO — A pair of homeless encampment fires occurred over the weekend with one causing damage after spreading to a nearby warehouse, fire officials said.

The first fire which had more than 70 firefighters responding to the 700 block of Bayshore Boulevard at 10:34 p.m. Friday, April 28, actually started in a nearby homeless encampment, fire officials said.

The flames were contained to the exterior of the building in about an hour-and-a-half and no injuries were reported, according to Capt. Jonathan Baxter, with the San Francisco Fire Department.

Bayshore Boulevard was closed in the area as the fire and cause were investigated.

The second fire, reported Sunday, April 30 at about 4:29 a.m. outside the 1000 block of Mariposa Street, near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue, was contained by San Francisco firefighters less than a half-hour later at 4:54 a.m.

No injuries were reported and no one was displaced from the encampment, according to fire officials.
