Starting This Weekend, Crews Begin Work to Install New Caltrain Tracks

Work on the San Bruno Grade Separation Project will take place Saturday, April 30 to Friday, May 6. Thursday night, April 28, crews closed Scott Street and limited Dollar Street to southbound traffic to begin construction on the crossing and signal system. Crews will work around the clock to demolish, remove, and then install tracks to shift the current Caltrain path a few feet west to reduce the track curvature. The Scott Street closure and limited traffic on Dollar Street will last until Monday, May 2. Drivers should follow posted traffic signs. Then from Friday, May 6 to Monday, May 9, crews plan to close South Linden Avenue to complete similar work. Trains will run on a single track during these weekends. Patrons should follow the directions of station signs and identified ambassadors.

Other day work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Additional work includes potholing, sanitary sewer relocations, grading, upgrades to the signal systems, and construction of retaining walls for the future temporary station.

Other night work will take place from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., outside of peak passenger service hours. This work will include construction of the shoofly or temporary track, electrical work, signal system upgrades, grading, utility encasement, construction of retaining walls for the future temporary station, drainage improvements, and relocating and installing vehicle and pedestrian gates. Digging work will require the use of a backhoe, mini-excavator and jackhammer. At times, noise levels could be as high as 75 decibels. Crews will use generators to power portable light towers. Night work will be done in accordance with Caltrain and city agreements and ordinances.
