Kaiser Awards Grants to Nonprofits Serving San Bruno

Kaiser Permanente recently awarded more than $600,000 in community grants to nonprofit organizations throughout San Mateo County, including two organizations that work directly in San Bruno, the medical company announced this week.

In all, 47 groups received financial support from Kaiser, which will help improve the health of communities throughout the county. 

“This funding will help provide a positive impact on our communities’ health,” said Frank Beirne, Kaiser's senior vice president and area manager. “Partnering with community based organizations is one way we help transform neighborhoods and communities into healthier places to live, work and play." 

Kaiser's Community Benefit Advisory Board evaluated more than 100 applications before awarding $610,000 in grants.

The applicants were required to address one of five health priorities: childhood obestiy, access to care, at-risk youth behavior, health of our aging population and violence.

The Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center, which works with the Police Department to address gang issues and youth violence, and the Peninsula Association for Retarded Children and Adults (PARCA), which works with students before and after school in the San Bruno Park School District, were two of the recipients.

Funding ranged from $5,000 to $35,000 for each grant.
