Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Jessica David
The Rollingwood Elementary sixth-grader has been competing in spelling bees and is participating in an event Saturday that could advance her to the national spelling bee in Washington, D.C.

Each week, San Bruno Patch will feature an amazing kid, youth group, teen or sports team that wows us with their accomplishments.
This week, we feature sixth-grader Jessica David, who is competing Saturday in a spelling bee competition in San Francisco that could land her a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Name/Age: Jessica David, 12
School: Rollingwood Elementary School
Accomplishment: Rollingwood Elementary held its annual spelling bee at the school in January, and Jessica won the competition, the day before her birthday. Although she was nervous at the moment and could feel her heart pounding in her chest, she won by spelling the word writhe.
"After that, I literally almost screamed," Jessica said.

She then went on to compete among 200 Bay Area students in a written spelling bee at the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley, and she placed in that competition.
Now, she is getting ready to participate in a spelling bee on Saturday at Pier 39 in San Francisco, which, if she makes it through, would land her a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
To get prepared, Jessica said she has been studying the dictionary—the Webster's Third New International Dictionary, to be exact, which has 2,662 pages, small writing and three columns on every page (she has memorized all of this)—watching "Spellbound," the documentary on the Scripps spelling bee, and listening to rock music from the video game, "Guitar Hero."
Key to Awesomeness: "Basically, work hard and still have fun while you do it," Jessica said.
