Planning Commission Says Farmers' Market Should Stay Put at Mall

After getting through a test run, the new farmers' market, which has been operating at The Shops at Tanforan since May, got approval to continue to operate at the mall through the end of the year.

The Planning Commission gave the OK on Tuesday to keep the city's farmers' market at its new location at the mall—at least through the year.

The farmers' market has been on Sundays since May, and the organizers have already seen an improvement. The San Bruno Chamber of Commerce, which runs the Sunday market along with the Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association, decided to move the event from San Mateo Avenue to the mall because traffic and the number of vendors had been dwindling.

The new location came with the promise of a bigger space and more visibility.

But the chamber was only given a three-month temporary permit to test out the new location.

Planning commissioners agreed that the new location at Tanforan was better and that it should continue every week until it wraps up for the year.

Now, the city is asking the mall to install some new signs at the front entrance giving people more directions about where the park. The mall's management agreed with that request.

However, the city also wanted the mall to install a new crosswalk between the front entrance parking lot and sidewalk leading to Barnes & Noble, and the mall rejected that request.

The runs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. every Sunday through Nov. 18.
