18 Drivers Cited, 1 Arrested During DUI Checkpoint In San Mateo County: Police
Police said they screened 910 cars during the DUI checkpoint over the weekend.
SAN CARLOS, CA — Deputies did not find any drivers under the influence of alcohol during their DUI checkpoint Friday and Saturday in San Carlos but found over a dozen of other drivers violating the law in other ways, police said.
“The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office holds DUI enforcement operations throughout the year to help improve the safety of our roadways,” said Sheriff Christina Corpus. “Drivers are reminded to never drive under the influence. If you’re thinking about consuming alcohol, make a plan beforehand. Use a rideshare service, a taxi or designate a driver to get home safely.”
From 6 p.m. on Friday to 2 a.m. on Saturday, San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies held a DUI checkpoint on the 700 block of El Camino Real in San Carlos.

Deputies said they screened 910 drivers, conducted 21 field sobriety tests, cited 11 drivers for operating a car while unlicensed, cited seven drives for not carrying their license, and arrested one driver for giving a fake ID to a police officer and having an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.
No drivers were found to be under the influence.

Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, police said.
