City Manager to Get $25K Raise
San Carlos City Councilmember Matt Grocott was the dissenting vote, saying the raise sends the wrong message to other labor groups.

In a 4-1 vote last week, the San Carlos City Council approved a new contract agreement for City Manager Jeff Maltbie.
Under the new contract, Maltbie will receive a 13 percent raise, boosting his annual salary to $226,536---a $25,000 increase. Additionally, Maltbie will see an increase in his monthly car allowance--from $250 to $500, and he will now have 25 days of paid vacation, up from 22.
Maltbie received a favorable performance review last month, which was factored in to the council's decision. And City Attorney Gary Rubens noted that Maltbie's new salary is commensurate of those paid to managers of cities similar in size.
However, according to the San Jose Mercury News, Vice Mayor Matt Grocott, the dissenting vote, felt the raise sent the wrong message.

"I really concern myself with what kind of message that sends the other labor groups we're going to thave to negotiate coming up in the next year," Grocott said.
Maltbie was hired as city manager in March 2011 at an annual salary of $197,000, his new contract agreement is retroactive to March 25, 2013.
