The family of former San Carlos Mayor Randy Royce is holding a public memorial service for him this evening.
Royce died March 26 at the age of 62 after a five-year battle with cancer. Tonight's memorial will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Hiller Aviation Museum at 601 Skyway Road in San Carlos, City Manager Brian Moura said.

Royce was elected to the City Council in 2007 and served one four-year term, acting as mayor in 2010.
He lived in San Carlos for more than 32 years with his wife, Yvette, who is a librarian, and raised his two sons in the city. On his personal webpage, Royce said his sons, now adults, work in mobile game design and computer hardware development.

Royce was a member of the Museum of San Carlos History board, the San Carlos Sister City Association and the Canada College Presidential Advisory Board. He was also a longtime AYSO soccer coach and participated in
other community activities.
"He was involved in so many dimensions," said Moura, his longtime friend. "He was connected to almost everything in town."
On his website, Royce listed his personal interests as photography, the history of San Carlos, woodworking, travel, walking, skiing and golf.
Moura called Royce the unofficial photographer of San Carlos.
"He always had a smile," Moura said. "He was always very positive."
Moura said residents of Royce's street have been sharing stories about Royce offering help with computer problems or helping power wash neighbors' windows.
Leaders at community and nonprofit groups that Royce volunteered
with were shocked to find out that he had been undergoing chemotherapy in the
past few years because he always had so much energy, Moura said.
Royce attended the University of San Francisco as an undergraduate
and received a master's degree in business administration at the University
of Southern California, followed by a 23-year career as a financial analyst
at Hewlett-Packard.
During his time as a councilman, the City Council balanced the budget and created a surplus after grappling with a $3.5 million deficit.
Moura said tonight's memorial will be a celebration of Royce's life, with hundreds of neighbors, family members, friends, city residents and elected officials expected to attend.
