Pleasanton Man Arrested, Accused Of Attempted Murder: SMC Sheriff

The SMC authorities are calling the San Carlos incident an unprovoked attack on a teenage victim the suspect allegedly didn't know.

SAN CARLOS, CA — A 34-year-old Pleasanton man was arrested Monday on suspicion of a slew of charges including attempted murder regarding an assault on Loma Road in San Carlos, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department reported.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the call in the 200 block of Loma Road on a 5:28 p.m. call of what the authorities are calling an unprovoked attack on a teenage male with a deadly weapon.

According to the report, Payam Nia entered an opened garage armed with a baseball bat and struck the young victim in the head as he walked through the garage. Nia instructed the victim to be quiet then fled the scene.

An extensive area check was conducted through the neighborhood and Eaton Park open space area. Nia was located by a sheriff's canine and apprehended. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment then booked into San Mateo County Jail. Beyond attempted murder and assault, Nia faces accusations of child cruelty and resisting an officer, the sheriff's department added.

Nia and the victim were not known to each other, and the motive behind this crime is still being
