Beach Club Rehab Again up for Discussion

The Ole Hanson Beach Club needs serious renovations, officials say, but how they're executed is a subject of passionate debate.

After a few rounds of discussion and ballooning cost estimates, the plans for renovating the Ole Hanson Beach Club will be back before the public at the San Clemente City Council meeting Tuesday.

Dozens of residents have spoken at previous meetings about what kind of renovations they think are appropriate for the historic structure.

The club, one of San Clemente's oldest public buildings, is  in need of a new roof and pool renovations, as well as an elevator to make it compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Also, architects plan to rejigger the floor plan and add amenities to the catering kitchen to attract more revenue from weddings and other events.

City staff, according to their report, will flesh out in more detail options for the renovation.
