City Reminds Parents to Practice Safe-School Drop-off at Shorecliffs
After providing a sufficient grace period, enforcement is now underway in areas marked "No Parking" or "No Stopping" zones.

In March, the San Clemente City Council adopted a resolution to apply provisions of the California Vehicle Code and San Clemente Municipal Code to the portion of Avenida Vista Hermosa west of the I-5 interchange.
The owner of the property, Taylor Morrison, applied to the City to seek enforcement to encourage circulation in this area adjacent to Shorecliffs Middle School and as a safety measure, to ensure parents utilize the designated on-site parking lot.
Also in March, the city issued a press release notifying the public of a number of steps that would be taken to improve the area prior to the cityβs drop-off restrictions being implemented. The goal is to prevent motorists from parking at the sides, middle of the intersection or dead-end of West Avenida Vista Hermosa.

The property owner has legitimate concerns about liability due to unsafe practices by parents picking their children up from school in areas outside of the parking lot. These concerns have been heightened with the construction work underway at Marblehead Coastal.
The Capistrano Unified School District has since conducted notification to the parents about these parking restrictions. Deputies with San Clemente Police Services have also continued to inform drivers to safely drop-off children only in the parking lot. After providing a sufficient grace period, enforcement is now underway, and those who drop-off or pick-up their children in designated βNo Parkingβ or βNo Stoppingβ zones may be ticketed.
