Marine Monument Park Vandalized

Someone ripped out shrubs, tampered with lighting and left trash all over Park Semper Fi Saturday night, according to a landscape volunteer.

Park Semper Fi was vandalized New Year's Eve, according to an email from the man who handles the landscaping there.

"Shrubs had been torn out at the second oval planter at the park. He got help with two volunteers from the Garden Club to remove the beer bottles and cigarette buts from the park," said Glen Frohlich in the email to a park foundation official.

"I went down with my truck and picked up the debris. While there I noticed that the lights had been turned away and dirt kicked over to cover the lighting of the Marine flag," he said. "I have cleaned and re aimed the lighting hoping that our recently replaced bulbs are still working. Fortunately none of the fixtures were broken, but we will probably have to prune the rest of the damaged shrub next week."
