San Clemente resident's debut novel explores parallel universes

Raymond Quinn is dead and about to embark on the adventure of his lifetimes. "The Unlived Lives of Raymond Quinn" is available now.

Nearly everyone has wondered how life would have unfolded had they made different choices along the way. Which college—or no college? Follow your dreams or play it safe? Settle down or stay single?

Post-retirement, Raymond Quinn assumes his dreary days will roll by, punctuated by his daily coffee run. Ray is dead wrong. Instead, he meets a strange man in an out-of-the-way place and gets much more than a caffeine fix. Raymond gets to live his other timelines with different jobs, locales, relationships, and adventures. In short, his multiverse.

"The Unlived Lives of Raymond Quinn” is now available in paperback and ebook.

After the army came college, marriage, fatherhood, and entrepreneurship. Matthies' other accomplishments include earning a lifetime ban from Catalina Island at 13, viewing Earth from 80,000 feet during a Mach 2.5 flight in a supersonic Russian aircraft, and remaining an absolute beginner after “playing” guitar for more than three decades.
