San Clemente Selects Next Round of Utility Box Artists

Artists from the San Clemente Art Association will paint colorful murals on five utility boxes around town.

The City of San Clemente and the San Clemente Art Association (SCAA) is pleased to announce the artists whose artwork will appear as public art on five more utility boxes identified for beautification.

. With its success, the San Clemente City Council continued the program, identifying additional utility boxes along public streets for paintings that depict San Clemente’s culture, traditions and history.

The call for artists concluded on February 22, 2013 and a jury panel comprised of artists, art professionals and community representatives judged all 28 entries.

The jury panel selected the following artists and their respective art, which in their opinion best reflects the quality of the community and captures the local culture in a positive way.

  • Regina Hurley, “In Flight” (located at Camino Los Mares/Hospital)
  • Mike Ravetti, “Sunset Dinner” (located at Avenida Pico/Del Cerro)
  • Ashley Keene, “Sunset at Trestles” (located at Del Cerro/Vista Montana)
  • Josh Barnes, “Buried in Nature” (located at El Camino Real/Mariposa)
  • Meghann Nelsen, “SC Classic View” (located at Avenida Palizada/Estrella)

The artists will paint their assigned utility boxes during the period of April 15th through April 29th.

A public viewing was selected for Sunday, April 28th from 10:00 a.m. to Noon to allow members of the public an opportunity to watch the artists paint the utility boxes.
