Neighbors' Complaints Muffle Live Music
The San Juan Capistrano Planning Commission denied an application from El Coyotito No. 2 to offer disk jockeys, karaoke and dancing groups at its location in the Alipaz Plaza.

The Planning Commission on Tuesday night quashed the restuarant's application to expand its live entertainment offerings. Plus, the commission told city staffers to monitor existing noise so it doesn't exceed what's allowed under the municipal code.
The application for a permit to offer disc jockeys, karaoke and dancing groups was denied after residents of the nearby Mission Point neighborhood complained about the "boom, boom, booms" and "circus band" noise that already reverberates through their housing track.

"Our street is already vibrating enough," said resident Leslie Leone. "[We] don’t need to encourage anybody."
The restaurant at the southwest corner of Del Obispo and Alipaz streets is currently permitted to host mariachi bands and some other types of limited live entertainment from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and up to 12 live entertainment events per year Monday through Thursday.

Residents said the Alipaz Plaza shopping center where El Coyotito No. 2 is located isn't suited for a night club because it's enveloped by homes, many of them lived in by retirees.
"I don’t think this is an appropriate use for this site," Planning Commissioner Parkhurst said of the request to expand. "In addition, I would like to see stronger enforcement of original conditions of approval."
