Physically Fit, Kinoshita Kids Earn Cash Prize for New Gym Equipment
The San Juan Capistrano elementary school was selected as the county's regional award winner in a statewide fitness competition.

Track workouts during recess and healthy-eating earned School students a prize more tangible than good health.
The school was named Orange County's regional award winner in the 2011 Governorβs Challenge Competition.
In the last school year, all 656 of Kinoshitaβs students successfully completed the governorβs challenge of being active at least 30 minutes a day at least three days a week for a month. Together the schoolβs students recorded 72,127 days of physical activity.Β

The schoolβs support of good nutrition was highlighted through its school-wide βHealthy Resolutionβ to eliminate the practice of rewarding students with sugary treats. Students also participated in the βHarvest of the Monthβ program where they tried a new fruit or vegetable each month.
On Friday, the executive director of the Governorβs Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, Kenny Rogers, presented the school with a $5,000 check for physical fitness equipment and a $1,000 gift card for school supplies at CVS.
