Reminder: Ortega Jam Gets Worse Monday

The bridge over the I-5 Freeway will be closed to cross traffic.

Construction closures will begin Monday on a section of Ortega Highway west of Interstate 5 in San Juan Capistrano, officials reminded motorists today.

The area around the old mission will be cut off from the most-direct route to the freeway for three weeks, as the roadway is rebuilt.

Both offramps from the freeway to Ortega Highway, also known as State Route 74, will remain open. However, southbound traffic exiting Ortega will only be able to turn left to go eastbound.
