San Juan Capistrano Roadways To See Updates Thanks To ARPA Funds

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — Streets in San Juan Capistrano will see roadway construction in the near future, as the San Juan Capistrano City Council voted at their Oct. 5 meeting to use $7 million in Americans Rescue Plan Act funds to improve city streets. The move comes as a part of the city's overall plan to invest in roadway infrastructure.

The Americans Rescue Plan Act, signed into law in early March, is designed to give $1.9 trillion in financial assistance to states, localities and metropolitan areas that have been impacted by COVID-19. Of this $1.9 trillion, San Juan Capistrano received $8.6 million.

The proposed roadway plan will dramatically improve the condition of the city's pavement, and will begin spring 2022 with a major project to rehabilitate Camino Capistrano, the major north-south arterial roadway that spans the length of the community, according to the city manager's weekly report.

Of the remaining ARPA funds, $1.5 million has been earmarked for the proposed Permanent Supportive Housing and City Hall Project, according to the report. One-hundred thousand dollars will go toward the city's ongoing COVID-19 response.
