Youth Killed Running Across 5 Freeway In San Juan Capistrano
Witnesses described seeing a youth attempt to run across the San Diego (5) Freeway Friday night when he was struck and killed.
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed Friday while running across the San Diego (5) Freeway in San Juan Capistrano.
The crash was reported about 8:45 p.m. on the northbound San Diego Freeway at the Junipero Serra Road off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Witnesses told the CHP a tall, skinny juvenile, possibly a boy, ran from the right shoulder to the center divider before being struck.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and the Orange County coroner was called at 8:52 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene, the CHP said.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 8:56 p.m. for the HOV lane and lanes 1 and 2 just south of the Junipero Serra Road off-ramp. All lanes were reopened at 11:27 p.m.
