$1.7 Million In Legal Aid For Immigrants Approved By Supervisors In This Bay Area County

The board of supervisors passed Measure K Tuesday.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors passed a measure at their Tuesday meeting that increased funding for legal aid that supports immigrants while ICE raids occur throughout the state.

The board unanimously approved Measure K, which authorizes almost $1.75 million to support immigrant residents in an agreement with Legal Aid of San Mateo County to provide affirmative, removal defense and rapid response legal services from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026.

This funding includes $533,964 for immigrants facing urgent legal needs and $800,671 for removal defense legal services.

At the Tuesday meeting, the board also approved a waiver for the competitive bidding process from other organizations in hopes to ensure uninterrupted legal support.

Additionally, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s office released a statement Wednesday addressing recent ICE raids in the Bay Area.

“I want to reiterate our policy regarding the operations of ICE (U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement). Our policy complies with applicable state law. Additionally, our policy states that we ‘will comply only with judicial warrants,'" said Sheriff Christina Corpus.
