2 Juveniles Accused In SMC Burglary Spree

Sheriff's officials say they arrested one suspect following a surveillance operation, but the other suspect got away.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Two juveniles accused in a series of burglaries on the Peninsula were identified on Friday after sheriff's officials say they spotted them in a surveillance operation. Ultimately, one of them was arrested, but the other got away, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

According to sheriff's officials, deputies spotted the two juveniles — who were not publicly identified — around 10:40 a.m. Friday. They were in "a stolen Mercedes that has been used to commit burglaries throughout San Mateo County."

"Surveillance on the stolen Mercedes was conducted in the coastal region of San Mateo County which ultimately led Sheriff’s Deputies to the intersection of Olmstead St. and University St. in San Francisco," the sheriff's office said in a news release. "Sheriff’sDeputies attempted to stop the suspects however one suspect fled on foot and was not located."

The second suspect was arrested at the scene.

Inside the vehicle the juveniles had been driving, deputies said they found burglary tools, window punches, and suspected stolen property.

The arrested suspect was booked at the San Mateo County Youth Services Center, while the second suspect has been identified and arrest warrants are pending, the sheriff's office said.
