Delay In COVID Test Results In San Mateo County Leads To Apology
The county said in a statement Wednesday that staffing issues were affecting the turnaround time for processing COVID-19 test results.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo County officials apologized Wednesday for delays in providing results for COVID-19 tests at the San Mateo County Event Center.
People who were tested at the event center told ABC7 that they had been waiting for a week for results after being promised to hear back within days. The event center’s testing site runs through a company called Virus Geeks, which has several locations in the Bay Area.
In a statement on Twitter Wednesday, the county said that staffing issues were affecting the turnaround time for processing results and that it was working with Virus Geeks and other partners to address the issue.

“We understand the importance of timely information for the residents to take the appropriate actions,” the county’s statement read.
The county recommended that residents experiencing respiratory symptoms stay home and avoid contact with others.

“Please know we are aware of the public’s concern and are working with our testing partners to improve the situation,” the statement read.
