Fatal San Mateo Assisted Care Facility Poisoning Probed

A 93-year-old woman was killed and two additional residents were hospitalized after ingesting a toxic chemical, police said.

SAN MATEO, CA — A 93-year-old San Mateo assisted care facility resident died Friday after ingesting toxic chemicals, police said.

Two additional Atria Park of San Mateo residents who ingested the chemicals were hospitalized, the San Mateo Police Department said.

Officers at around 8:10 p.m. Friday responded to the facility on the report of a woman being poisoned, police said.

San Mateo police Detectives are investigating this case jointly with the California Department of Social Services Ombudsman, police said.

Atria Hillsdale is cooperating with this investigation, according to police.
