Peninsula DUI Checkpoint Nets 1 Arrest, 3 Citations

Officers contacted 777 drivers during the checkpoint, authorities said.

BURLINGAME, CA — One person was arrested and three were cited at a Peninsula DUI checkpoint last week.

The checkpoint was from 8 p.m. Aug. 24 to 1 a.m. the next day on California Drive near Carmelita Avenue in Burlingame.

Officers contacted 777 drivers during the checkpoint, according to the Burlingame Police Department.

Two citations were issued for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, and one was issued for other vehicle code violations, police said.

The stated goal of DUI checkpoints according to police is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes, police said.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
