'Professor Truffles' The Pig Seeks Peninsula Home
A portly pot-bellied pig is looking for a new family that can help him get into shape and live his best life on the Peninsula.

SAN MATEO, CA — The Peninsula Humane Society/SPCA is looking for a forever home for Professor Truffles, a nine-year-old pot-bellied pig in need of a loving family. According to the shelter, he weighs 150 pounds and will need some help to trim down and sustain a more healthy weight.
"Professor Truffles was surrendered to us since his previous family was moving and were unable to take him with them," said Buffy Martin Tarbox, a PHS/SPCA spokesperson. "We are committed to finding him a new loving home with experienced pig owners where he will be kept as a pet, not a source of food. His name is an homage to the famous truffle hunting pugs, but Professor Truffles is more interesting in noshing on carrots and apples than in seeking out the pricey fungi."
The shelter describes Professor Truffles as extremely friendly and in need of a family that can provide the space and care he needs to live out the rest of his years. Pigs live 12 to 18 years on average, and their typical diet includes pig pellets, vegetables, fruit and alfalfa hay.
