UPDATE: Teen Arrested After Threat to Shoot Up Serra High School
San Mateo police were keeping a watchful eye on the school today following an anonymous threat of violence made on social media.

SAN MATEO, CA -- A teenager has been arrested after threatening to shoot up school, according to the San Mateo Police Dept.
SMPD officers were alerted anonymously to a threat over social media about a possible shooting at Serra High School. An in-depth investigation led to the identification and arrest of a student.

Authorities have not yet released many details, other than the suspect is a 16-year-old male San Francisco resident who was booked at Hillcrest Juvenile Hall.

SAN MATEO, CA -- There's an increased police presence at Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo today due to an anonymous threat about a possible shooting at the school that was made over social media, authorities say.
According to local news station KGO, San Mateo police said they have not been able to identify the person to determine the specific nature or credibility of the threat, but that patrols have been placed in and around the school as a precautionary measure.
Both uniformed and plain-clothes officers are in the area, according to the SMPD. The increased security presence, police said in a statement, is not meant to cause concern, but to reassure the school community.
Junípero Serra High School is a Catholic college preparatory school serving students in grades 9–12.
